Frank Owens is the legendary pianist: "Owens played in New York in 1966 with Clifford Jordan, with whom the first recordings were made, in the following years with Harvey Brooks, Ernie Wilkins, Louis Armstrong, Bobbi Humphrey, Sonny Stitt and Bucky Pizzarelli; he also accompanied vocalists such as Astrud Gilberto, Sylvia Syms, Trudy Richards, Lena Horne and Ruth Brown. In 1969 he put the soul jazz album Oliver! Olé! (Columbia), followed by Brown’s Serve (Encounter Records, 1973), on which u. a. Bernard Purdie and Hugh McCracken participated, as well as Frank Owens Plays the Music of Eddie Heywood. He also worked as a pianist for various Broadway productions such as Ain't Misbehavin, Maurice Hines ’Uptown It's Hot! and Sophisticated Ladies, 1980 as musical director of the first David Letterman Show. He also appeared on the television shows It's Showtime at the Apollo, Eubie Blake: A Century of Music (PBS) and Christmas in Washington (TNT). During his career he worked as musical director for Johnny Mathis, Chubby Checker, Melba Moore, Johnny Nash, Connie Francis, John Denver, Irene Cara, Lesley Gore, Freda Payne, Petula Clark and Keith David. He also participated in numerous television commercials. In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1966 and 2005"
