A couple of adjustments to make and then taking it in the field today for immediate assignment Jon's new-old tape recorder, thanks to Akio Morita! - Jon Hammond http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akio_Morita Akio Morita (盛田 昭夫 Morita Akio, January 26, 1921, Nagoya, Aichi – October 3, 1999, Tokyo) was a Japanese businessman and co-founder of Sony Corporation along with Masaru Ibuka. Akio Morita was born in the village of Kosugaya, Japan. Morita's family was involved in sake, miso and soy sauce production in the Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture since 1665. He was the oldest of four siblings and his father Kyuzaemon trained him as a child to take over the family business. Akio, however, found his true calling in mathematics and physics, and in 1944 he graduated from Osaka Imperial University with a degree in physics. He was later commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Imperial Japanese Navy, and served in World War II. During his service, Morita met his future business partner Masaru Ibuka in the Navy's Wartime Research Committee. On May 7, 1946, Morita and Ibuka founded Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, the forerunner of Sony Corporation) with about 20 employees and initial capital of ¥190,000. Ibuka was 38 years old, Morita, 25. Morita's family invested in Sony during the early period and was the largest shareholder. In 1949, the company developed magnetic recording tape and in 1950, sold the first tape recorder in Japan. In 1957, it produced a pocket-sized radio (the first to be fully transistorized), and in 1958, Morita and Ibuka decided to rename their company Sony (sonus is Latin for sound, and Sonny-boys the most common American expression).[2] Morita was an advocate for all the products made by the Sony Corporation. However, since the radio was slightly too big to fit in a shirt pocket, Morita made his employees wear shirts with slightly larger pockets to give the radio a "pocket sized" appearance... From the age of 15, Lewis demonstrated a preternatural musical gift with his bands Mike Lewis Quartet and Andre Lewis and the New Breed. After a highly successful career during the ‘70s as a session musician for the likes of The Who, Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix, Lewis signed to Motown and developed “Mandre,” an artist from outer-space and a character that made him one of the first musicians to play with the idea of cyborg-as-performer. After three albums for Motown, and two hits in “Solar Flight (Opus I)” and “Freakin’s Fine,” Lewis released his final album as Mandre, Mandre 4, in 1982 on his own Futuregroove label. It seems indolent to refer to Mandre as an electronic musician, because he pulled from so many different genres to create a sound that was unique enough to shun any label, yet so familiar that you could turn on ‘70s radio and hear his influences on almost every song. Disco, funk, soul, pop, and music that was yet to be created can be heard on each of his albums. And he didn’t just pioneer with the music he created, he also pioneered how music was created; He helped design the LinnDrum drum sequencer that helped define ‘80s pop, and was one of the first artists signed to major label to integrate one of hip-hop’s defining instruments, the Roland Tr-808, into his work. He was an artist that could have been mentioned in the same breath as Kraftwerk and Herbie Hancock, had more people known about his work. Obit - Lewis, Michael Andre` Dec 7, 1948 - Jan 31, 2012 International recording artist, Michael Andre` Lewis, wrote and produced for Motown Records in the 1970's. Andre` Lewis, also known as 'Mandre', toured with musical giants, such as Frank Zappa, Johnny Guitar Watson, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Miles, Sly and The Family Stone, Santana, and many, many more, as well as local musicians. Michael Andre` Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Jr. and Annabell Lewis; grandparents, Harry Lewis Sr. and Dell Moore (Frank); brother, Sherdale Lewis; sister, Roslyn McClain; and grandson, Jermaine Lewis. He is survived by ex-wives, Patricia Lewis of Omaha, NE, and Sabina Ritter of Munich Germany; six children: Robert Lewis, Joy Borsak (Thomas), Toni Lewis, Andrea Scott (Booker) all of Omaha, NE, Riva Lewis of Munich, Germany, and Shawn Dreason of California; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends. It opened its doors in 1961 at 147 Bleecker Street under the auspices of owner Fred Weintraub. The club changed its name to The Other End during the 1970s. However eventually after a few years the owners changed the club's name back to the more recognizable Bitter End. History An earlier club, "The Cock and Bull" operated on the same premises with the same format, in the late 1950s. The poet/comedian Hugh Romney (who later became known as Wavy Gravy) read there. During the early 1960s the club hosted Folk music "hootenanies" every Tuesday night, featuring many performers who have since become legendary. During its heyday the Bitter End showcased a wide range of talented and legendary musicians, comedians, and theatrical performers.[1] In 1968 Paul Colby, who began his career as a song plugger for Benny Goodman’s publishing company, and went on to work for Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, and Guy Lombardo, became the manager and booking agent at The Bitter End, and in 1974 he purchased it.[2][3] In the mid 1970s, the club became known as the birthplace of Bob Dylans Rolling Thunder Revue, which featured such names as Joni Mitchell, Roger McGuinn, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Joan Baez, T-Bone Burnett, Ronee Blakely, Mick Ronson, and many other guest stars. The City of New York bestowed landmark status to the night club on July 23, 1992. Alternative To Clips On Cable by Kim Freeman Billboard Magazine March 19, 1984

NEW YORK---Year-old BackBeat Productions hopes to break new ground in the video medium with it's first project, "The Jon Hammond Show." Currently airing on Manhattan Cable's Channel 3 and San Francisco's public access Channel 25, the program is a half hour of computer generated graphics synchronized with original jazz-fusion and rock music. Hammond's voice and his tapping boot are the only human intrusions during the show.
"It's an alternative to the conceptual and concert footage videos. We're delivering an art form." says the show's host, BackBeat's co-founder Jon Hammond. The company also functions as a label, and Hammond says the broadcast will be a vehicle to expose artists on the BackBeat roster.
Hammond say's he's close to securing slots on public access channels in New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston and plans to recoup investements by syndicating the show to national networks if and when it gains an audience.
His partner in the venture is former Crusaders guitarist Barry Finnerty, who wrote the music for the first program. All songs on the "Jon Hammond Show" feature BackBeat's studio band of Finnerty, keyboardist Hammond, drummer Steve Ferrone and saxophonist Todd Anderson.

Thanks Steve! As follows: On January 11th 2005 I attended The MacWorld Expo Keynote given by Steve Jobs at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. Just prior to MacWorld my first album re-release digitally remastered "Late Rent" went on to the iTunes Store so I was very excited about the whole concept of being able to offer my music through the iTunes platform and I brought along one of the CD's in my pocket. The Keynote was really great, although I wasn't really sure that Steve was there live because he was projected up on to the big screen throughout the presentation. I thought it might be possible that it was a prepared film, but he occasionally made references to the day's weather (rain predicted) and some other things that made it current. Near the end of the presentation he brought out a surprise guest, President of Sony Kunitake Ando and they pledged a commitment to work together on HD video. John Mayer came out and played at the end, the presentation was over and so I went in to the exhibits directly afterwards. I was speaking with one of the Apple black shirt guys when all of a sudden I saw Steve. He saw me and I know he doesn't like to be approached but he must have thought he either knew me or recognized me and he came right over to meet me. I saw him coming so I reached in my pocket and pulled out my CD Late Rent fresh copy still in the shrink wrap. I introduced myself and thanked Steve for the wonderful opportunity for all the composers and musicians to get our music out through iTunes (I am a member of ASCAP) and I told him I would like to give him my Late Rent album if he would take it. He said "Sure!" He then (this showed me how intense he is, I will never forget) I handed it to him and right away he looked at the cover art work and then looked straight at me to verify it was indeed me on the cover. He then said "Thanks!" and I told him it was great to meet him...Steve walked away holding the CD in both hands still studying the artwork intensely as approx. 50 people were following him like the Pied Piper, shouting out Steve Steve...over here!. Steve was absorbed in the art work, and there is plenty to look at and copy to read, Michael August aka ILLUSTRATORP who designs my album covers so fantastically made sure of that! http://www.cityhallrecords.com/catpics/webpics/large/HBF105Lg.jpg The cover Steve Jobs was studying as he walked away:

The Day I Met Steve Jobs Personally In San Francisco by Jon Hammond

The Day I Met Steve Jobs Personally In San Francisco by Jon Hammond Jon Hammond San Francisco CA -- Let me preface this post by saying I am deeply saddened by the too-young death of Steve Jobs, but I am very thankful to have met him personally and I am one of the beneficiaries of his incredible body of work.

Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond

Filmed in Hammond-Showroom Karlstrasse 38
D-89129 Langenau Germany on April 19th 2011
"Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond"
First look at this exciting new keyboard product weighing in at 7 kilos, just over 15 lbs., it sounds like a real Hammond B3 organ with Leslie, or a full size grand piano, any type of famous vintage electric piano or synthesizer. This keyboard does it all and with original Hammond drawbars and it's feather light. Sk1 has a built in USB flash drive input, the keys are 'bullet proof' waterfall style keys that can hold up to extreme pressure of rockin' rock musicians, swinging jazz musicians and can even sound like a huge pipe organ. This film will blow your mind.
